On Tuesday, director Bob Clark and his 22-year-old son Ariel were killed by a drunk driver during a late-night drive in Pacific Palisades, CA. Clark was best known for directing the 1983 film A Christmas Story -- a film that really is impossible not to like (if not love). Clark, who continued to work regularly as a producer and director, was also the man behind the considerably less holy Porky's, a film that pretty much served as the template for every teenage sex comedy made in the last 25 years. (You think there would an American Pie if Porky's hadn't paved the way? A dubious aesthetic distinction, to be sure, but the film grossed $150 million theatrically in 1982.)

LAURA LEVINE: MUSIC PHOTOS
Musician Photo Gallery presents the photography of Laura Levine. The exhibition runs from April 5 through May 5, 2007. Opening reception for the artist is 7-9 pm on Thursday, April 12.
Laura Levine's intimate and iconic rock photography portraits span the punk, new wave, mainstream, hip-hop, and alternative rock scenes in their heyday, from 1980-1995. From a true insider's perspective, and with unprecedented personal access, Levine photographed hundreds of musicians, from cult figures to superstars: Bjork, The Clash, Madonna, Joey Ramone, Captain Beefheart, Iggy Pop & Chrissie Hynde, R.E.M. and The Beastie Boys, to name a few. This exhibition is Levine's first one-person show since she stopped shooting over ten years ago, and many of the images have never before been released as editioned gallery prints until now.
Capturing the essence of a musical era, Levine's work has appeared in countless magazines, album covers and books, as well as dozens of exhibitions, photography anthologies and published collections of fine art photographs. Her photographs are in the permanent collection of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. In 2005 she was the recipient of the Aperture Award from Rave Magazine in India, and her cover for the premiere issue of Blue Magazine was recently named one of the forty top magazine covers in the past forty years by the ASME (American Society of Magazine Editors).
Levine's career as a music photographer enabled her to work for magazines such as Rolling Stone, The New York Rocker (where she was chief photographer/photo editor), and Sounds UK. She directed music videos for Lisa Germano and Giant Sand, and worked with R.E.M. and other Athens, Georgia, musicians on the Super-8 underground film, Just Like A Movie (1984).

Not for the easily offended! On the other hand, if that very warning makes you want to be first in line, get ready for a series of hilariously blasphemous vignettes that riff on the Ten Commandments, with a finale worthy of Cecil B. DeMille. Featuring a star-packed cast having a sinfully good time (Paul Rudd, Winona Ryder, Justin Theroux, Famke Janssen, Gretchen Mol, Ken Marino, Oliver Platt, Jessica Alba).
